This past fall/winter, the arrival of Foster Dog Lila (still seeking a forever home) resulted in our adopting the postal carrier’s motto.
“Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these
couriers dog-walking humans from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
Lila’s demanding exercise regimen requires complete commitment, as an under-exercised adolescent with sporting breeds in her blood, is no one’s idea of a good time. And bundling up both dogs and humans in order to brave the cold for the umpteenth walk of the day, has become a tiresome task with what seems like never ending repetitions.
So, when Mother Nature blessed us with sunny skies and relatively warm temperatures this past weekend, we felt like cave dwellers who’d finally caught a glimpse of the sky.
Oh Joy! How pleasing it was to shed at least the heaviest Michelin Man layers!
While running errands we took a break at the Union Square Dog Run and the dogs alternated between basking in the sun and snurfling the humans on hand.
Everyone, it seemed, was eager to shake off the Winter Blues.
Foster Dog Lila is still getting her bearings at the dog run. Upon entry, she’ll first skirt the edges and when it’s suitably calm out in the open, she’ll find a quiet spot to close her eyes and sniff the fragrant breezes wafting over from the Farmer’s Market.
Still, the rowdy kids carry on….
…While elder statesmen like Theodore keep an eye out for passing food trucks.
The stylish kids hold court in the corners and seek the admiring gaze of all the dog lovers in attendance.
While the goofiest pups sport non-stop-smiles.
Yes, the temperature dropped to 36 degrees today. And so, once again, out came our boots and down coats and the dogs’ jackets. But we’d like to take this opportunity, to state for the record that:
We appreciate you Winter, with your lovely snow storms and soft light, but GET LOST! Please do STEP ASIDE and make way for Spring!
When our fingers have thawed and we can type nimbly once again, we’ll be back at this space, with more news!
